National Army Museum 2017 Limited Edition Bauble

The National Army Museum 2017 bauble is inspired by embroidered silk postcards in our museum collection, designed onto bone china and finished with hand painted gold leaf.

The embroidered mistletoe design is from a postcard sent by Private Philip Poole to his mother Eliza for Christmas 1917 during the First World War. He was 20 years old, undertaking logistical transport duties with the Army Service Corps on the Western Front. Philip’s message wished his mother a Merry Christmas, ‘From your loving son.’

Embroidered silk postcards were a popular keepsake from the trenches. Although crafted by out-of-work French civilians and refugees, their fine detail meant they were not cheap to buy.

The bauble is Limited Edition, with only 100 created in Stoke by our designer and maker Glorious Mud Ceramics. Each bauble is individually numbered 1 to 100 on the base.

£19.00

With carols from the Royal Hospital Choir at 5pm, free Play Base “taster” sessions and create your own tree decorations activities, available throughout the evening. Café open for drinks and snacks throughout the evening. Suitable for the whole family.
